TNAMR – Tennessee Alaskan Malamute Rescue

Beginnings.

Starting in 1996 (as Sleddog Rescue, now Tennessee Alaskan Malamute Rescue – TNAMR) we are here to help homeless Alaskan Malamutes.  Malamutes are homeless for a variety of reasons, usually involving their owner’s circumstances (loss of job or home, divorce, etc.).  Responsible breeders always take their dogs back, but not everyone accepts this responsibility, or plans for it.  Thus the need for rescues like TNAMR.

Temperament is more important than anything else in a dog.  Therefore every dog is temperament tested BEFORE they are accept into rescue, and every day he is in rescue he is on probation.  A dog who fails in temperament at any point will be euthanized.  No exceptions.  Adult Malamutes often don’t like other adult Malamutes of the same sex and same-sex dog-aggression is expected.  But no dog should have out-of-control dog-aggression or actively look for fights.  And any dog that is aggressive towards any human for any reason at any time will fail his temperament test on the spot.  The world is a crowded place and there is no room in it for human-aggressive dogs.

Before you ask to adopt a particular dog, please consider if you will be a good home for that dog.

Warning.

“THAT ONE is beautiful!”  Of course, he is.  They’re all beautiful.  But please don’t choose a dog based on a photograph or physical description alone.  Consider how the dog will suit YOUR lifestyle, energy level, fenced area, house size, household members (both human & animal), and your time available to dedicate to grooming, obedience training, & socialization for the next 10-15 years.  Consider how many times you will move in the next 10 years, how the kids will either arrive and take all your time or grow up and move away and then YOU will have to take care of the dog.

We will renovate our website soon! In the meantime, the rest of the site can be reached here.
