Masasyu

Lori Ann Hicks died 11/24/2024 after a prolonged battle with stomach cancer. She left behind her High School sweetheart, who later became her partner of 28 years, Harold Power, and 12 Alaskan Malamutes, which were the product of 3 decades of breeding, starting with CH Tessa’s Sir Charles.

Charles was the beginning of our true friendship, Lori’s and mine, and he was the sire of my AKC/INT CH Wayeh Singn Follow Me Masasyu CGC CGC RN WTD UWP “Sunny,” AKC ptd/INT CH Wayeh Singn N Howln Masasyu WTD UWP “Maestro,” & AKC ptd Wohali on the Wayeh Wind WTD UWP “Storm.” Charles affects every dog and every breeding I have done since 2002.

But Charles was not how I met Lori. That was a rescue dog named Train that she adopted from me, after driving all the way down from New York to Tennessee to get him. Which long travel days became the theme for our long friendship, usually meeting in Columbus, Ohio. I drove to New York with Singer, to breed to Charles, and stayed 3 weeks on their couch when I got sick. We met in the middle countless times, for her to meet Sunny & Maestro as puppies. For me to meet Meshak and get his son Clay. She drove down after her housefire in her big box truck with the surviving dogs, as a sort of ‘I survived’ trip. And lastly, I flew back up in December 2024 to retrieve the remaining Masasyu dogs after her death, and drive them all the way down to Wayeh. In yet another box truck.

That last endeavor, the bringing them South, evaluating them, and rehoming the ones that can be rehomed, is what this page is about. (Also my love for this woman who gave so generously and freely and helped me create the Wayeh dogs of today.)
