Now retired, but we are very lucky to have bred to Rider and then 18 months later to have the
opportunity to welcome him into our homes. Thanks, Hank & Barbie &
Tina -- we love this guy!
Rider's Journal
It is possible
to be startled out of a sound sleep that involves beautiful, flowing furred,
long limbed, female breeds of all kinds dressed in harem outfits to the
reality of 6:00 a.m. with all the dogs going off woooooooooing. I jumped up to
see what was going on. Shawnee and Hope were doing the pongo-pongo and Raven
was really excited and Frosty was wired for sound.
It dropped to 60 degrees last night and
was really nice this morning and mom got her horse out.
It is possible
to go 20 miles and make it home. And what a dream I gave up to do this.......
Mom said something about a backpacking
title in the works?????? boy those streams are cool this morning. I fell
asleep before mom left for work.
Maybe that is why I have a svelte figure
and no extra fat anywhere????
It is possible
for the "horse crowd" to come over and me survive them (kids and
all). I made lots of new friends, showed off my "shake paws"
"Sit" and "High 5". The kids loved me and so did the
adults and I got lots of petting, hugs and loving. This kid thing is not so
bad.
It is possible
to run with Scout (the 6 month old black and white foal out of mom's horse,
Zoey). Mom wants photos because we look so much alike. I didn't know you could
"play" chase with them and he even plays ball with me. I use my feet
and he uses his nose to push the ball. Shawnee taught him this game and we can
all play it together.
It is possible
to survive being "groomed" by a horse. Scary, nerve wracking, but
possible. Guess they have accepted me as part of the "herd".

My kennel partner Liz Norris has this particular
mental bent. You challenge her and you'd better duck. In the days
of duels, she'd have been a busy babe. <G>
When Wayeh was offered the opportunity to have CH Snow Song's Night Rider live
with us, we JUMPED at the chance. Of course we did. We had bred to
him 2 years ago. We'd known him for years.
So we took in Rider. And Liz the obedience instructor, behavioralist,
and owner/handler of multiple CDX and SAR titled Malamutes immediately started
his obedience training.
Barbie wrote back, oh-so-casually that Liz shouldn't expect much from a 7yo
kennel dog. Downs and Stays and Sits were just not in his vocabulary...
Barbie is a wise woman.
You should have seen Liz. Her back went ramrod straight, the hair stood
up all over her head. "Not expect much? Not in his
vocabulary? THAT dog," stabbing a finger at him, "Is about to
become bi-lingual."

And with her gentle, coaxing, comforting manner with dogs, she began his
training (she just ain't like that with two-leggeds, OK, she's all thunder and
lightning with us. The dogs get all her softness and maternal
instincts.)
Tonight, Rider added two new titles to his name. A CH long before we got
him, he is now.... here's the drumroll, please:
CH Snow Song's Night Rider, CGC, TDI
(TDI=Therapy Dog International)
Wa-HOO, Rider. He downs, he stays, he sits, he recalls, he lets
strangers drive wheelchairs over him -- Rider ROCKS. And he can now
officially do what he's been doing all along -- going to schools and jails and
nursing homes and strutting his stuff for admiring audiences of all ages.
And way to go, Liz. And since this is the same woman who recently put
mother-son U-CDs on two Wayeh Mals, I don't have to tell you where Rider's
training is focusing next, do I?
